The etiology of transsexualism, literally means, the cause or causes of transsexualism. This is an area of interest for many transgendered and transsexual people, physicians, psychologists, other mental health professionals, family members and friends of transsexual people. Currently there are numerous scientific explanations on the causes. Some of the theories are; Rearing or Trauma and Sexuality, which are psychological and behavioural theories. Genetics, Brain Structure, Brain function and prenatal androgen exposure are biological theories
