Tucking and taping

From Susan's Place Transgender Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

"Tucking and taping" refers to a practice engaged in by male to female crossdressers, transsexuals and transgenderists to achieve a flat front. The tucking refers to placing the testes up in the canal from where they descended and to tucking the penis between the legs. The taping refers to using tape (medical or duct tape seem to be the most popular) to hold the genitals in place, but tape is not necessary for full concealment of external male genitals.

Techniques may vary per person.

[edit] Cautions

Some adhesives not approved for medical use might have unexpected reactions when placed on skin for extended periods of time.

Superglue is highly not recommended as it tends to take skin with it. An alternative is Johnson and Johnson's Liquid Bandaids.

Using tapes that do not breathe (e.g. duct tape) may create an environment conducive to bacterial growth. It is important to change tape regularly.

Urinary Tract Infections, although uncommon in the general male population, are common amongst females assigned at birth. Since tucking and taping may place the urethra meatus in close proximity to the perineum, your risk of developing a UTI may increase, but can be managed by following the same advice given to females assigned at birth (namely, keep the area clean and always wipe from front to back).

[edit] Types of Tapes

[edit] Duct Tape

The supposed favorite of drag queens everywhere, duct tape has a fairly strong adhesive. Remove with a warm bath and a lot of caution.

[edit] Medical Tape

Use 1" or larger. Medical tape adhesives when even slightly wet will not stick.

[edit] Basic instructions

  • Shave the scrotum and surrounding area well with a good razor and good shaving cream or gel. Cheap razors tend to take a lot of time or cannot remove every hair.
  • Lie on your back. Push your testes up into your abdomen with one hand.
  • Wrap the now empty scrotum around the penis and wrap several times with tape of your choice.
  • Tape the penis (now wrapped in several layers of tape) backwards towards the buttocks using a piece of tape or two on each side. This is to keep the penis in the center and pulled back.
  • Add additional tape as necessary to achieve a smooth front and secure existing tape.
  • Get dressed.

Be sure to have a fast removal plan just in case. Suggestions include a warm bath and EMT shears.

[edit] Techniques using liquid adhesives

A few authors in the nullo and eunuch communities have suggested the use of adhesives for tucking and taping. Such techniques, although promising a slightly more normal appearance, are generally too messy and time consuming to be of use to the transgender community.

[edit] Tape-less alternatives

[edit] Cache-sexe

Not much is known about this method, except that the penis is pulled and tied back.

[edit] Gaffs

Gaffs are essentially doubly strong panties. You can find them in crossdressing boutiques and similar websites. Sometimes wearing a second pair of panties is enough.

[edit] Make Your Own Gaff

These instructions will enable you to make and wear the Stephiegaff. It is simple to construct and provides the wearer an economical, and disposable alternative to the retail versions available. The gaff can be worn with confidence while taking part in many activities from jogging to swimming. The items that you will need are as follows:

  • One pair of support pantyhose the color of your choice;
  • Scissors, or a rotary cutter;
  • Straight edge for use with rotary cutter, and
  • Needle and thread, or a sewing machine.
[edit] Step 1: Layout

Place the pantyhose on a flat surface so that they are as flat as possible - fig 1.

[edit] Step 2: Preparing to Cut

Place the straight edge over a leg to hold it firmly in place - fig 2.
Image:Fig_2.jpg

[edit] Step 3: Making the Cuts

Leaving 1/4" (6mm) of the pantyhose leg for a hem, cut the legs from the pantie - fig 3, 4, and 5.

[edit] Step 4: Sewing the Hem

Roll the 1/4" (6mm) up and form a hem around the leg opening of the pantie. Sew the hem with either a sewing machine or by hand using a needle and thread. This will prevent the leg openings from running, and make the gaff last a lot longer - fig 6 and 7. The gaff is now finished and ready to wear.

[edit] Step 5: Wearing the gaff
[edit] Tuck

Pull on the gaff half way up your legs and tuck away the testicles and penis as illustrated in fig 8.

[edit] Pull up and Shape

Pull up the gaff and shape it so that the front part covers the front of what is now your fake female pubic area and the rear is shaped like the rear part of a thong as illustrated in fig 9 and 10.

[edit] The Final Look

Pull on a pair of regular panties to cover the gaff and you're done.
