Talk:Real life experience
From Susan's Place Transgender Wiki
Hi Susan, hi all -
After reading the page about RLE, and knowing what the clinical definitions of RLE are, and their obvious validity for clinical reasons of completing this process, What about "PRE-full-time transition RLE" ? As i am still not able to go full time, yet i am as often out in the world as myself as possible, going about my life - working, job interviews, shopping, banking, - just living in general - and am facing the same challenges and dangers as anyone else in this position, I personally consider it (although not "clinically" speaking") the same as any other RLE... Maybe we could create either a "pre-transition" RLE page or make it part of the existing forum on the main site for those like myself that are still only able to go part time as ourselves... Every single RLE day i have is another small triumph (sometimes great triumphs) as i learn to put all my fears aside, take the time and care every single day for myself in more positive ways, deal with people in my "new" role, and walk with my head held high as i go about living my life in the public eye...
Until i am in "full time transition", the reality is the same for me as any other person in transition because i willingly choose to do so, and i am surely not the only one out here in this position...
Sincerely,
Annagirl
Hi Anna,
The guidelines in the UK aare clear that the legal name change is a key date. Before that you always have the option of going back to your old self. However, in the UK the medics will take into account the experience you have gained in your acquired gender prior to name change.
Also in the UK Trans people are advised to spend at least 2 weeks 24/7 living in their acquired gender prior to name change. This is to make sure they have an understanding of what it will be like to live in their acquired role 24/7 for the rest of their life.
