Hedwig and the Angry Inch
From Susan's Place Transgender Wiki
Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)
Director: John Cameron Mitchell
Hedwig is a raucous rock opera often compared to the Rocky Horror Picture Show but easily differentiated from that drag celebration by putting convincingly real people in its absurd situations.
Clearly a personal project for John Cameron Mitchell, in addition to directing the film and sharing the writing credits he gives an excellent performance in the lead role as a German living in the aftermath of a botched sex-change operation.
Bearing multiple viewings this film is very well made despite its low budget and initial art-house release, and has established a well deserved cult following. The sound track is also very popular, a fine example of rock at its greatest.
